Homer’s Do’s and Doh’s: Pitkanen trade v. Umberger trade and Jones re-entry v. Pronger trade

Paul Holmgren became the interim General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers on October 22, 2006. That interim title was removed only weeks later on November 11. Holmgren was able to take a team that finished last in the National Hockey League, and rebuild it to make a deep run all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals the very next season. Yes, some of Holmgren’s moves have been amazing, but he’s also a guy who has gotten this organization into some hot water with the salary cap and was forced to make deals that were head scratchers to say the least. You Can Play: Three small words, one monumental message

This past Sunday, when most hockey GMs were poring over endless notes and taking phone call after phone call regarding potential free agent signings, Toronto’s Brian Burke marched in the Toronto Pride Parade in honor of his late son, Brendan. Brendan was the first person who was associated with the hockey world as being openly gay. He was the student manager of the University of Miami hockey team, and had a …

Since Paul Holmgren took over as general manager, the Flyers have made at least two moves each year at the draft, or during the week leading up to it. Date Sent Team Received 6/23/2011 Jeff Carter Columbus Blue Jackets Jakub Voracek, …

Flight Plan Week of 10.30.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers split their four games this week. After a big win over the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Flyers dropped a bad one to the Montreal Canadiens where they looked all sorts of out of sorts against a team who was desperate for a win. Then, the Flyers continued looking discombobulated up until the end of the second period against the Winnipeg Jets in a crazy 17-goal back-and-forth shoot out at the Wells Fargo Center, the Jets barely getting out of dodge with a win they should have had locked up. Wrapping up the week, Philadelphia was able to …
