Flyers known to keep Summers interesting

It’s now the offseason, and with it comes a ton of rumors about potential trades or acquisitions — thus, the moniker of “Silly Season.” This particular one is especially interesting, with names like Rick Nash, Bobby Ryan, and Ryan Suter floating around as either pending free agents or possible trade bait. As we learned last summer, the Flyers have no problem with pulling the trigger on huge deals if it means improving their team for the future. So it’s not completely out there to think that they might make another humungous big deal during the era of sweltering heat, whether …

Caveat: It would take a lot to get Shea Weber out of Nashville as the Predators will do everything in their power to keep him. But that does not mean that the Flyers shouldn’t try their damnedest to get him. The fact of the matter is that Weber is an elite defensive talent that is the biggest missing piece standing between the Flyers and a Stanley Cup parade. Few players could realistically fill the void left by Chris Pronger. Weber is one of the select few and is just entering the prime of his career to boot. What reason do …

Point/Counterpoint: Matt Carle or Ryan Suter?

Welcome to the newest edition of “Point/Counterpoint,” where a pair of Flyers Faithful scribes present both sides of one particular issue with their own unique view and flair. This week, Steve J. and Hal G. square off over whether or not the Flyers should stick with Matt Carle or pursue Ryan Suter. First up Steve: The Flyers defense was undoubtedly a weak point in the playoffs.  Sure, Ilya Bryzgalov was god awful in the first round but the Flyers defense didn’t help him out very much.  They were torn apart by New Jersey’s cycling in the second round and even …
