A little over a week ago, Claude Giroux sent out a tweet that he and Scott Hartnell would be growing beards during the lockout, presumably until the ban on National Hockey League hockey is lifted. Atlantic Watch: 3/14-3/20

A dominant win over the New York Islanders and a pair of comebacks helped the Flyers gain five crucial points in the standings this week, as Philly still has a slim chance to win the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the only game in which the Flyers didn’t earn a point may have been their most impressive performance, as they posted 23 more shots than the Panthers in their one-goal game loss last night. The Philadelphia Flyers had won seven straight and were rolling along despite missing their best forward, their best defenseman, and a few others. Saturday afternoon, that all came to a head. The Flyers were blanked, blown out by the Boston Bruins in the Flyers’ final home game of 2011, by a score of 6-0. If that wasn’t sobering enough, Philadelphia has almost certainly lost another center to a concussion as 19-year old rookie Sean Couturier took a shot in the back of the head from Kimmo Timonen.
