There weren’t too many bright spots to pick out of the Philadelphia Flyers’ 2013 season, but the production and growth of Jakub Voracek could be one of the biggest positives to take away from the non-playoff campaign. With impressive numbers offensively and being considered one of the more consistent players for the Orange and Black throughout their 23-22-3 season, Voracek exceeded the expectations many had for him before the start of the shortened year. After spending parts of six seasons in the SM-liiga, Ville Leino became a member of the Detroit Red Wings’ organization for the 2008-2009 campaign. The forward spent time with the Tampereen Ilves, HPK, and Jokerit before he spent most of his first season with the Wings’ franchise in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Leino saw regular season and postseason action for both the Griffins and Red Wings during 2008-2009, as he posted 46 points in 57 games with Grand Rapids and nine points in 13 tilts with Detroit. On Tuesday night, Oliver Lauridsen’s first NHL goal came courtesy of a huge mistake made by Boston’s Zdeno Chara. This time, Lauridsen’s goal was all his own as he notched the game winner in a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders. Ilya Bryzgalov got the win for the Flyers making 21 saves. Kevin Poulin took the loss for the Islanders making 28 saves of his own. Flyers Give Second Strong Effort in a Row, Win 5-2 over Boston

With a little help from an unexpected source, the Philadelphia Flyers won 5-2 over the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night, their second strong effort in a row — despite being out of playoff contention. Oliver Lauridsen scored his first NHL goal 11:31 into the second period, with some help from Boston’s Zdeno Chara. Lauridsen dumped the puck into the Bruins’ end, where Chara attempted to throw it back around the boards. Simmonds’ hat trick powers Flyers past Hurricanes in Carolina

The Philadelphia Flyers were able to post a win in their first game since knowing they were eliminated from playoff contention, as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 on the road tonight. Wayne Simmonds recorded his first career hat trick and added on an assist, while Matt Read had a goal and two assists in the win. Steve Mason earned the decision in the high-scoring affair, as he denied 26 of the Hurricanes’ 29 shots on net. The Philadelphia Flyers dropped a 3-0 contest to the New Jersey Devils tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Ryan Carter, Matt D’Agostini, and Adam Henrique had the goals for Jersey in the win, while Martin Brodeur posted a 23-save shutout to end the Devils’ 10-game losing streak and hand New Jersey their first win in April.
