Well, the National Hockey League has done it again! On Wednesday morning, reports began to surface about the league allowing team management personnel to speak one-on-one to their players regarding the NHL’s latest offer in an attempt to sway them towards agreeing to it. This allowance comes after the owners and general managers were forbidden from speaking to their players, and were threatened with heavy fines if they were to do so — including a $1 million penalty for offering any thoughts about the ongoing Collective Bargaining Agreement mess. In case you missed it, the Jewish Holiday Yom Kippur passed on Tuesday night. As many of you know, I am Jewish. On Yom Kippur, my fellow Jews and I sit in synagogue, fast, and pray for atonement for our sins for the past year. Furthermore, we, as a people and individually need to apologize to those we have hurt. A little over a week ago, Claude Giroux sent out a tweet that he and Scott Hartnell would be growing beards during the lockout, presumably until the ban on National Hockey League hockey is lifted. Everything you wanted to know about the CBA but were afraid to ask Here are your updates from the past week on the ongoing collective bargaining agreement talks from around the Web. Lockout. It’s a dirty word to me, like “strike”, “New York Rangers”, and “country music”. We,the fans, always lose during any labor disagreement between the owners and the players. We can only hope that both sides suck it up, meet in the middle and get a deal done. Scott Hartnell often flirts with dirty play on the ice, but it doesn’t result in much more than trash talk or an action to irritate his opponent. Over the span of his 13-year professional career, the left winger has only been suspended once. As we reach Part II of assigning value to the Flyers assets on the roster, things begin to get much more convoluted and less black and white. Last week I went into great detail breaking down the core pieces of the roster, but now it gets much more difficult. It all started innocently enough. On August 20, ESPN Hockey aficionado John Buccigross tweeted the following: “No owner loves being an NHL owner or is more generous/loyal to his players than Ed Snider. CBA has not expired yet. Playing by rules.” Buccigross is referring to the Flyers re-signing of Scott Hartnell to a six-year extension. Things in Philadelphia are good. The Flyers are playing by the rules, but they are taking advantage of the rules while they still exist.
