Several weeks back, we asked our beloved Twitter followers who were their most loved and hated Flyers of the past decade. It led to some great names and some great discussion. Well it got us thinking. In the doldrums that is August in the hockey world — not to mention the impending doom of a lockout — we decided to put together a tournament; poll style! Another domino falls in the Flyers’ direction. Following on the heels of Wayne Simmonds’ six-year contract extension, Scott Hartnell has been signed to a six-year contract extension on Monday. Tim Panaccio reports the contract is for $28.5 million over the six years, which results in a cap hit of only $4.75 million; a very modest raise over his current $4.2 million cap hit. “We are pleased to announce that we have agreed with Scott on a multi-year extension,” said Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. “Scott has been a very good player for us over the last five seasons and we look …

CBA 101: No-trade and no-movement clauses

The standard player contract (SPC) of a Group 3 unrestricted free agent can contain a specific clause which prevents the player from being involuntarily moved from their current team. There are two types of clauses, the no-trade clause and the no-movement clause. As you might imagine, the no-trade clause prevents a player from being traded to another team without their express permission. A no-movement clause not only prevents the player from being traded, but also prevents their relocation by loan or waivers as well. Call me crazy, but I love what the Flyers are doing. With the exception of not signing Shea Weber, I’m very happy the Flyers did not sign Ryan Suter or Zach Parise. I’m content – no, I’m ecstatic that the Flyers have decided to use their excess money to lock up the core of their team. Waiting for hockey season is becoming intolerable. I was fine for the first couple months, really. Time to take a break from all the outpouring of emotions every game, including the half-excitement, half-bitterness that came with watching Los Angeles hoist the cup. Two seasons ago, fan Seth Hastings decided to keep a count of how many times Scott Hartnell fell during the year.
