The Philadelphia Flyers learned tonight that it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, as they blew a two-goal lead to lose 5-3 to the New Jersey Devils tonight on the road. David Clarkson provided the game-winner for the hosts halfway through the third period, as the Devils scored four unanswered goals to win for the fifth time in their last six games. The Philadelphia Flyers were able to extend their point streak to four games this week, as they earned a shootout loss to the Florida Panthers and an overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes. Although they were dominated in Toronto, the Orange and Black did a good job of rebounding to earn their second road win of the year last night in Winnipeg. The Flyers continue their road trip with three of their six games away from the Wells Fargo Center coming in the next seven days. The Philadelphia Flyers’ troubles away from the Wells Fargo Center continued tonight, as they were pummeled by the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 at the Air Canada Centre. Matt Frattin had a goal and an assist for the Maple Leafs, while Cody Franson and Nazem Kadri each had two assists in front of their home crowd. Colton Orr had the game-winning goal and James van Riemsdyk scored against his former team, as James Reimer earned the victory despite leaving the game early in the second period due to an injury. Danny Briere scored his second goal of the season at 1:47 of overtime as the Philadelphia Flyers sent Carolina Hurricanes home with a loss for the second straight Saturday, winning 4-3. Briere took an outlet pass from Nicklas Grossmann along the boards, crossed up the defense, and sent a wrist shot, which deflected off the far post and then off the backside of ‘Canes goalie Cam Ward and over the goal line. The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their third straight game on Friday night in Washington against the Capitals by the score of 3-2. Wojtek Wolski had the eventual game-winner for the Caps, while Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist in the victory. The Philadelphia Flyers lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at the Tampa Bay Times Forum by the score of 5-1 in Michael Leighton’s first start of 2013.
