Does the Raffl signing have any implications for Read, Schenn, or Couturier?

It seems a bit silly to think that the signing of a 24 year old who was “only” playing in the second-best league in Sweden might affect what the Flyers choose to do with some of their other young players; namely Matt Read, Brayden Schenn, and Sean Couturier. However, I can’t help but wonder if this means the Flyers would consider trading one of their young forwards. I know I’m not alone, as Charlie O’Connor of The Hockey Guys recently expressed a similar thought. First and foremost, I’d like to state that this is purely my opinion and there is …

2013 NHL Entry Draft: Updated (5/31) Mock Draft Two

There have been some changes from the time my last mock draft posted until now. The players who rose the most were Nikita Zadorov (London Knights; OHL) and Robert Hagg (Modo; Swedish Elite League). Hunter Shinkaruk (Medicine Hat Tigers; WHL) and Steven Santini (US U-18; USHL) were the biggest fallers in the first round. There are also two new faces in this mock draft: Robert Hagg (above) and Madison Bowey (Kelowna Rockets; WHL). The breakdown and full mock draft is below. 2013 Draft Eligibles: Sean Monahan is the year’s Sean Couturier

For Ottawa 67’s center Sean Monahan, playing alongside Tyler Toffoli (47th overall, LA, ’10) Shane Prince (61st overall, OTT, ’11), and Cody Ceci (15th overall, OTT, ’12) for his first two seasons in the OHL proved to be valuable for the top OHL forward prospect in this year’s NHL draft. In 127 games playing with the trio of Ceci, Prince, and Toffoli, Monahan registered 53 goals and 125 points. These are impressive numbers for the 6’2 193 pound center from Brampton, Ontario but questions lingered about Monahan prior to the start of the 2012-13 OHL season. Can he do produce …

Draft Eligibles: Is Darnell Nurse (OHL), Donovan McNabb’s nephew, the next Chris Pronger?

One player who has climbed up the draft boards this season is Sault. Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenseman Darnell Nurse. Nurse is currently ranked 10th overall by ISS in its January rankings and is listed as the number one OHL defenseman draft prospect, and number two overall OHL player behind Ottawa 67’s forward Sean Monahan. While Nurse’s talent is already present, he will most likely be drafted on future potential. At 6’5 190 pounds, Nurse certainly has room on his frame to add muscle and size. Nurse can also play quite physically, using his 6’5″ frame to his advantage, as indicated …
