PHI/WAS poll response

I agree with the majority of responders and would not trade Jeff Carter and Matt Carle to Washington for Mike Green and Semyon Varlamov. The Flyers could certainly use a right-handed shot from the point to help boost scoring, especially on the powerplay. However, Mike Green is a defensive liability who comes along with a hefty price tag. You could limit his defensive faults by pairing him with Chris Pronger or Kimmo Timonen but it’s simply not practical to consider adding Green’s $5.25M cap hit to an already expensive defense, even if he does have the potential to score 20+ …

Poll: Would you make this hypothetical PHI/WAS trade?

Before I go on, I’d like to preface this poll by saying this situation is purely hypothetical. I am not speculating that this might happen or suggesting it is a legitimate rumor. For the love of all that is good and holy, don’t read anything into it or claim that I said this might happen. As rivals, the Flyers and Capitals make for unusual bedfellows but, this offseason, they could be a match. Washington has goaltending depth and a right-handed offensive defenseman, both rumored to be available. The Flyers have a surplus of centers and an alleged need for goaltending. …

Flight Plan is a new column that will take a more in depth look at the Flyers’ upcoming opponents every week here at Flyers Faithful. Two weeks ago, the Philadelphia Flyers had not won two games in a row and had been playing sound in maybe one or two areas of their game.  Other than the Danny Briere, Scott Hartnell, and Ville Leino line, nothing seemed to click on a nightly basis for this team and something just seemed off. Now the Flyers have not only won two straight, but are in the midst of a six-game winning streak. The …

Looking at the impact of the Halak trade

Jaroslav Halak, the 25-year-old Slovakian netminder, was the arguably the best available goaltending asset this offseason. His stock skyrocketed after an unprecedented playoff run where he backstopped the 8th seed Montreal Canadiens to victories over the top team in the East and the defending Stanley Cup champions while boasting the best save percentage in the playoffs. GMs were apparently told a while ago that he was on the block but the trade of Halak to St. Louis for Lars Eller and Ian Schultz came as a shock to the rest of us. Carey Price was supposed to be Montreal’s next …
