3 on 3 for the week of 1.1.2012

Welcome to this week’s 3-on-3, a look back at the week that was for the Orange and Black. The Flyers were 1-1 last week, getting two points out of a possible four. Let’s get to this weeks 3 “Hot” and 3 “Not” players of the week. 3 “Hot”: Jaromir Jagr: In his return to Pittsburgh, Jagr scored the go ahead goal in the second period and Philadelphia was on its way to its fourth straight victory at the CONSOL Energy Center. The future Hall of Famer made a sick move and scored a pretty backhand goal and then saluted the …

Rupp Scores Twice, Rangers Hand Flyers Classic Loss

In a lineup that boasts Brad Richards, Marian Gaborik, and Ryan Callahan, it was Mike Rupp who hurt the Flyers most, as he scored a pair of goals in the Rangers 3-2 at Citizens Bank Park in the 2012 Winter Classic on a blustery Monday afternoon. Richards potted the game-winner early in the third period, while Brayden Schenn and Claude Giroux scored for the Flyers, who dropped their third game of the season to New York. Henrik Lundqvist made 34 saves on the night including all 10 of the Flyers’ shots in the third period — and saved the Rangers’ bacon in the final seconds by …

Jaromir Jagr saluted the crowd after his second-period goal, while Max Talbot provided the empty-netter as the Flyers walked into the CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday night and strolled out with a 4-2 win. Matt Read put home his 12th of the season late in the second period for the game-winner as Sergei Bobrovsky grabbed the victory with 24 saves. Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy scored for the Pens while Marc-Andre Fleury had 19 saves in the Pens’ second loss in December to the Flyers. Although the Flyers had the help of Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn returning to the line-up, they managed to end the week with a pair of losses as they fell out of the top position in the division. The highlight of the Flyers’ upcoming schedule is The Winter Classic on Monday against the New York Rangers. After missing the previous four games, Giroux returned to the line-up last Wednesday to lead the Flyers …

A Jumble (of thoughts)

It’s two days to Christmas. That’s insane. I just got my packages out in the mail yesterday. Yeah, I was way late this year. Wish my family and friends didn’t live so far away. The logistics when you’re a nomad like me. I thought today I would just do some quick reviews of much that’s been going on. We’ve had two episodes of HBO’s 24/7 Flyers Rangers so far with lots of quotable moments (HuMANGous Big) and Giroux returned after four games off for a four point night. Crazy busy in Flyerdom. First though, The Hockey News, Vol. 65 No. …
