Shea It Ain’t So!

The Philadelphia Flyers tried to add one of the best defensemen in the NHL to the roster by signing restricted free agent Shea Weber to a 14 year, $110 million offer sheet. Their hopes were dashed on Tuesday when the Nashville Predators announced their decision to match the Flyers’ offer. The Predators had until 11:30 pm Wednesday to match the Flyers’ offer. If they had decided against it, they would have received four first-round draft picks as compensation. The Miscalculation of Paul Holmgren

Ryan Suter…Strike one. Zach Parise…Strike two. Jaromir Jagr…Strike three, you’re out, Mr. Holmgren. We in Flyerdom find ourselves in a strange situation as of mid-July in 2012. The Flyers’ big free agent signing 11 days in has been bottom-six forward and old friend Ruslan Fedotenko. Holmgren failed to make meaningful contact with the two marquee free agents in Suter and Parise (although, if you have read my articles, you know I don’t believe Suter was a marquee free agent). Furthermore, the Flyers blew their chances in retaining Matt Carle. I believed Holmgren when he said that he believed that he …

My Flyers wish list

It was a sad day in the Greenblatt household when the Flyers traded James van Riemsdyk. For one, JvR was my guy. Also, my brother had just purchased a JvR Winter Classic jersey (for the record, he has a penchant of purchasing jerseys and finding said player traded or released within two years of the purchase). But it was more than just the loss of that once-promising Jersey native that made my household sad; it was knowing the uber-talented van Riemsdyk will become a top-six forward for another team. It was knowing that another young player signed to a long-term …

Atlantic Watch: 1/4-1/10

The Flyers won three of their four games this week, as all three wins came in one-goal games. In the Flyers’ last three games, they have received no help from the line of Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, and Jaromir Jagr as all three players are pointless since the Flyers’ win on Thursday. The line will look to find their groove again as the Flyers complete their four-game road trip this week before returning home for a game against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.  In their first match-up in Philadelphia since Game six of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals, the Flyers beat …
