Kennedy scores winner in overtime, Flyers lose 2-1 in Pittsburgh

Unfortunately for the Philadelphia Flyers they couldn’t continue their annual tradition of ending a lengthy Pittsburgh Penguins’ winning streak, as the Pens squeaked out a 2-1 overtime win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight. Tyler Kennedy’s fifth goal of this shortened season beat Ilya Bryzgalov 2:33 into overtime, as Pittsburgh extended their winning streak to 12 games. Claude Giroux was the lone Flyer to beat Marc-Andre Fleury in the loss, while Sidney Crosby took advantage off a 5-on-3 power play late in the contest to send it past regulation. Flyers hang on for 3-2 win, end three-game losing streak

Both the Philadelphia Flyers and the Buffalo Sabres entered tonight’s game at the Wells Fargo Center on three-game losing streaks, but the hosts were able to grab a 3-2 victory to end their skid. Claude Giroux had the game-winning goal just 17 seconds into the second period and Kimmo Timonen had two helpers in the win, while Ilya Bryzgalov had 17 stops for the decision. It wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but the Flyers came out and provided enough of an effort to beat a team as desperate as them to earn points. Although it was their third game in …

It was so close. The now mythical three-game winning streak, a feat not yet accomplished by the Flyers in 2013, was just 41 minutes away in Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers.  Sitting at .500 after back-to-back wins, the first period produced both offense and optimism; it seemed like all was right in the land of the orange and black. Then THE line change happened: you know, that awful, inexcusable line change with less than a minute to go in the period that allowed Ryan Callahan to tie the game. Two goals from Rick Nash later, the team …
