Trenton Update: 1/11-1/17

The Trenton Titans’ losing streak reached seven games before they pulled off an overtime winner on Wednesday morning against the Reading Royals. The Philadelphia Flyers’ affiliate only grabbed one point over the 0-6-1 stretch, as their last two wins have come in overtime against the Royals at Sun National Bank Center. The Titans will be in New York tonight before they travel home to host a pair of games against the leaders of the North Division. Trenton started the week with a 3-1 loss to the South Carolina Stingrays in New Jersey on Friday. Both the Saturday and Sunday games …

Alvarez Leaves for Ft. Benning, Titans Lose Seventh Straight

The Trenton Titans lost their seventh straight last night at the hands of the visiting South Carolina Stingrays on Military Appreciation Night at Sun National Bank Center. Marcel Alvarez and his teammates couldn’t do enough to beat Jeff Jakaitis and his shot-blocking partners, as Trenton saw the goaltender stop 32 of the 33 shots they threw at him. Scott Wedgewood had 16 saves on 19 shots, as three players who participated in the loss last night won’t be on the team today. The story of the night was Alvarez. On a night dedicated to 2nd Lieutenant Alvarez, the blue liner …

Late tally sends Stingrays past punchless Titans

The first full night of games following mass call-ups due to the end of the NHL lockout have passed in the ECHL, and the Trenton Titans opened up a two-game home series on Friday night playing like they were trying to figure out just how to deal with the sudden upheaval. So were the South Carolina Stingrays (17-18-4), but the visitors managed to come up two goals better in a 3-1 decision in New Jersey’s capital. Ryan Zapolski, who came into the contest riding a league-best 1.69 goals-against average, stopped 19-of-20 shots for the victorious visitors, and the one he …

Trenton Update: 1/4-1/10

The Trenton Titans’ two-game skid turned into a five-game losing streak this week, as the squad dropped all three games on their schedule with a record of 0-2-1. Just as the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate gained a lot of ground in the Eastern Conference with a winning streak a few weeks ago, the team dropped right out of the playoff picture with a losing streak, as Trenton sits 12th in the conference at the moment. A pair of tilts against a team three points ahead of them in the East and a contest against the team leading their division give the …

Trenton Update: 12/21-12/27

All that separates the Toledo Walleye, the team sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference, and the Evansville IceMen, who sit last in the Eastern Conference, is 10 points. With that being said, a team that was in the Trenton Titans’ position of being out of the playoff picture can quickly change with a string of wins. Over the last two weeks, that’s exactly what the Titans have done to move from the bottom of the conference to seventh in the East. Hopefully Trenton can keep the momentum going this weekend, as they take part in a home-and-home with the dreaded Reading …
