Falcons soar over Phantoms with 3-2 victory

Scott Laughton and Mark Alt each earned their first American Hockey League points in their debuts with the Adirondack Phantoms, but it wasn’t enough as the Springfield Falcons skated away with a 3-2 victory Friday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Trent Vogelhuber gave Springfield (42-20-9) the early lead in the first with assists from David Savard and Jake Hansen. Nick Holden added a score, while Spencer Machacek would go on to score the game-winning goal in the third. Allen York recorded 27 saves on 29 shots and added another mark to his win column. The Philadelphia Flyers lost their first two games this week to stretch their losing streak to three games before they edged out the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday for a pair of points. Phantoms-Falcons tilt rescheduled

Per a release from the American Hockey League… “The Springfield Falcons, AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets, announced that they will finish their suspended game from Sunday, Feb. 17 against the Adirondack Phantoms on Friday, Mar. 1 at 6:05 p.m. prior to that evening’s scheduled contest between the two clubs, which will now begin at 7:30 p.m. The game will resume with 3:42 remaining in the second period with Adirondack leading, 2-1, and Springfield commencing a two-minute power play. Phantoms-Falcons game suspended due to scary incident

On Sunday, Adirondack Phantoms defenseman Brandon Manning was party to something no player wishes will ever happen, even in the heat of battle, not to himself, a teammate, nor a member of the opposition. Manning and Falcons’ Wade MacLeod collided with 3:42 remaining in the second period of a game in Springfield, MA, one in which the Phantoms led by a 2-1 score. The force of the hit dropped MacLeod to the ice, and the 26-year-old winger suffered a seizure as a result of the impact, though not until he was skating back to the bench. He was carted off …

The Adirondack Phantoms finished 10th in the Eastern Conference for the 2011-2012 regular season, as the club missed a playoff berth by five points. As they headed into the final week of the campaign with an outside chance to make the postseason, the Phantoms dropped two of their final three tilts to miss an opportunity to win the Calder Cup.
