Then and Now: Andreas Nodl

The Philadelphia Flyers had three draft picks in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft: Andreas Nodl, Michael Ratchuk, and Denis Bodrov. Both Ratchuk and Bodrov never played a game in the NHL, but Nodl turned out to be a serviceable player for Philly for a few seasons. Picked before a lengthy list of productive players later in the second round, such as Milan Lucic and Keith Seabrook, Nodl is struggling to make it in the NHL as a 26-year-old winger. After finishing his second season at St. Cloud State University in 2007-2008, Nodl joined the Philadelphia Phantoms for a trio of …

Frequent Flyer Miles: Syvret traded to New York, Fedotenko and Kane leave for KHL, Nodl out in Carolina

There weren’t a lot of noteworthy former Philadelphia Flyers involved in transactions this week, but there were several lesser known former Flyers that moved and a lengthy list of former Phantoms that signed with different teams. The biggest news could surround the tandem of Jaromir Jagr and Danny Briere. Jagr, who was told by Peter Chiarelli and the Boston Bruins last week he wouldn’t return to the team for next season, could return to the 2013 Eastern Conference champions, as Chiarelli said it’s possible they could contact the veteran forward for his services if need be. Minor League Update: 1/23-1/29

With a trio of losses this week, the Adirondack Phantoms extended their losing streak to five games. Over their five-game losing streak, the Phantoms have been out scored 20-7, as the team has suffered two four-goal losses. The Phantoms hope the AHL’s All-Star break will end their misery as of late, as they have a three-game home stand over the next several days. For their third straight loss, the Phantoms dropped a 5-1 decision at the Verizon Wireless Arena to the Manchester Monarchs (Los Angeles Kings’ AHL affiliate) on Wednesday night. Jordan Nolan posted the game-winner 11:31 into the middle stanza …

Ranking the Flyers top 20 prospects using NHLE

Last year, I wrote about a method of evaluating prospects using NHL Equivalencies or NHLE. NHLE allows us to figure out the NHL equivalent of prospect’s performance outside of the NHL. This enables us to better compare prospects playing in various leagues where the level of play is often quite different. I decided to come up with a prospects ranking using NHLE as my guide. Last year I simply ranked the prospects from the best NHLE to the worst, but this time I am taking into account age and league because those are big factors as well. A 20 year …

North American Prospect Weekly Report (4/4 – 4/10)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America. Forwards: Jason Akeson and the Kitchener Rangers played a game seven versus Tyler Brown and the Plymouth Whalers earlier this week. Akeson assisted on both of the Rangers’ goals, but it was not enough for Kitchener to move on. Brown scored a goal and assisted on another to help his team advance to round two. Brown assisted on all three of Plymouth’s goals in the opening match of round two, but his team fell short. He was held pointless in …
