In a pivotal Game 4, the Philadelphia Flyers showed signs of frustration and were out shot 43-22 in a 4-2 loss to the Devils at the Prudential Center tonight. Dainius Zubrus registered a two-goal night, while Petr Sykora and Marek Zidlicky both had a goal and an assist in New Jersey’s third straight win in the series. Martin Brodeur made 20 saves on his 40th birthday to give Jersey a commanding 3-1 series lead. A dominant win over the New York Islanders and a pair of comebacks helped the Flyers gain five crucial points in the standings this week, as Philly still has a slim chance to win the Eastern Conference. Unfortunately, the only game in which the Flyers didn’t earn a point may have been their most impressive performance, as they posted 23 more shots than the Panthers in their one-goal game loss last night. The Flyers managed to hold on for a one-goal win Thursday before they dropped both of their games on the weekend to go 1-2-0 this week. The win was the Flyers’ second since the All-Star break, as they are 2-4-2 since the break with both wins coming at home. Philly looks forward to two games against Eastern Conference teams outside the playoff picture in the next few days, as well as a meeting with the Penguins to determine crucial points in the standings. After a dominant victory on Thursday against one of the hotter teams in the league, the Flyers proceeded to drop their next handful of games to suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season. Poor starts and poor goaltending hurt the Flyers over the weekend, as the only other point they gained this week was from last night’s shootout loss. Hopefully for Philly, their play turns around, as they face three tough opponents over the next seven days. On Thursday, the Flyers handed the Nashville Predators a 4-1 loss in Philadelphia. In their only game this week, the Flyers took part in yet another shootout. Unfortunately for Philly, it was unable to pull out a win. The Orange and Black did, however, keep up with the Rangers, who also lost in a shootout this week. The Flyers look forward to a difficult week ahead, as three of their four opponents are currently in the playoff picture. For a third time this season, the Flyers lost to the Winnipeg Jets.
