It’s hard to give an overall review of a player that wasn’t expected to play for the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2013 season, but Oliver Lauridsen played respectively considering the situation he was put in this year. With the experience he gained this season, Lauridsen’s review for next year could be even more positive if the Flyers bring him back. Although Steve Mason struggled in Columbus — who didn’t? — he is not far removed from his Calder-winning rookies season. At the young age of 24, Mason posted a .944 SV% and .190 GAA in seven games as a Flyer. One could argue that he has had the best numbers of any Philly netminder since Roman Cechmanek, everyone’s favorite unibrowed Czech. Can he keep up the pace?

Former Flyer Bobrovsky nominated for Vezina Trophy

The National Hockey League announced its finalists for the Vezina Trophy this morning. The three finalists are all worthy candidates. The first being last year’s Vezina winner Henrik Lundqvist, goalie for the New York Rangers. The second is San Jose Sharks’ tender and Stanley Cup winner Antti Niemi. The final nominee is former Philadelphia Flyers and current Columbus Blue Jackets’ goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Bobrovsky was traded to Columbus last offseason for three draft picks and he easily stepped into the starting role for the Jackets. The Flyers season is over. We fans went on a long ride through a short amount of time. 48 games in fewer than 100 days. Blood, sweat, tears, injuries and fatigue plagued this 2013 Flyers team from the start of the season. But, let’s not forget, the Flyers gave us plenty of memories from this year.
