Flyers dominate the Senators, Mason posts 24 saves in 5-0 win

There weren’t too many questions about the Philadelphia Flyers’ goal scoring tonight, as they dominated the Ottawa Senators 5-0 for a big road win. Claude Giroux registered a pair of assists, while Steve Mason recorded his first shutout as a Flyer with 24 saves on the night. After a day filled with several trade rumors between the two clubs, the Edmonton Oilers signed a recently released Philadelphia Flyer that was at least entertaining, if not productive on the ice, as the Western Conference club signed Ilya Bryzgalov. It seemed as though it was only a matter of time before a club reached out to the former Philly goaltending character. Ironically, the team that did so signed Bryzgalov the day …

Malhotra pots winner in overtime, Hurricanes beat Flyers 2-1

Despite being held without a goal until the final minute of regulation, the Carolina Hurricanes pulled off a 2-1 win in overtime over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers tonight. Jordan Staal had the other goal for the hosts, as Justin Peters recorded his first win of the year for Carolina. Scott Hartnell recorded his first point of the season with a power-play goal, while Steve Mason deserved better in an impressive 36-save effort. In a very defensive game that saw most of the action in the neutral zone, Philly was able to grab the contest’s first tally with less than four …
