Caps Make Flyers Tap; Lose 7-0

Nicklas Backstrom scored his first goal for the Capitals at the 17:28 mark of the first period to give the Caps an insurmountable 1-0 lead. The Capitals would go on to win 7-0. Backstrom finished the night with two goals and an assist. Joel Ward recorded a hat trick and an assist for Capitals as Mikhail Grabovski had three assists. The other goal scorers for the Caps were Jason Chimera and Troy Brouwer. Goaltender Braden Holtby faced little pressure all night, stopping all 30 shots he faced for the shutout.   Ruslan Fedotenko beat Braden Holtby in overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 5-4 win in front of the home crowd tonight. After Kimmo Timonen tied the game with just under 10 seconds left in regulation, the blue liner set up Fedotenko for the game-winning tally in the extra frame to grab the Flyers two points in the standings. With a trio of losses this week, the Adirondack Phantoms extended their losing streak to five games. Over their five-game losing streak, the Phantoms have been out scored 20-7, as the team has suffered two four-goal losses.
