Flight Plan: Rough Skies Ahead

The Philadelphia Flyers are four games into their six-game road trip and are 2-2-0. This past week they were 1-2-0, beating the Detroit Red Wings by a score of 6-3, but losing to the Minnesota Wild, 2-0, and getting shellacked by the Dallas Stars, 5-1. Steve Mason allowed more than three goals for the first time since coming over to Philadelphia late last season, but through no fault of his own. The Stars’ top line of Jamie Benn, Valeri Nichushkin, and Tyler Seguin was dominant. Seguin scored a natural hat trick as the three players combined for a total of …

Seguin and Nichushkin destroy Flyers, Stars win big in Dallas

After putting forward a strong first period, the Philadelphia Flyers were absolutely abused up and down the ice during the second period, as the Dallas Stars produced an impressive 5-1 effort at home. Tyler Seguin had a hat trick in a four-point performance and Valeri Nichushkin provided three assists in his four-point performance, as Dan Ellis was barely tested in a 27-save effort for the win. Steve Mason finally allowed four goals in a game as a Flyer, as he stopped 22 of 26 shots in his two periods of action today. Andrej Meszaros had the visitors’ lone goal. It …

2013 Draft Eligibles: Is it Philly or Bust for Valeri Nichushkin?

Ever since Evgeni Malkin entered the league the bar for Russian prospects has been set. His combination of size, speed and stickhandling is something the NHL hasn’t seen, and will not see again. There is only one Evgeni Malkin. Scouts love to make lofty comparisons and envision improbable similarities with young talent. The top Russian talent in the upcoming 2013 NHL Draft is Valeri Nichushkin. The 6’3” 201-pound right-winger is the number two-rated international skater in the final Central Scouting rankings. Nichushkin burst onto the International scene during last year’s WJC in Ufa, Russia. With Team Russia in danger of …
