Flight Plan: Taking Off

The Philadelphia Flyers have now won two games in a row, both against divisional rivals in the New York Rangers and New York Islanders, and have finally lit the lamp more than two times in one game. More importantly perhaps, the team is finally healthy as Scott Hartnell and Vincent Lecavalier have both returned from injury. Lecavalier now has four goals and six points on the season, three of which came yesterday as he skated for the second game in a row with captain Claude Giroux and rookie Michael Raffl. Kesler’s two goals help Canucks to road win, Flyers lose 3-2

The Philadelphia Flyers played with a lead for most of the game, but their inability to convert on chances hurt them once again, as the Vancouver Canucks grabbed a 3-2 win tonight at the Wells Fargo Center. Ryan Kesler had a pair of goals in the win including the game-winner, while Chris Higgins provided the second tally of the game for the visitors. Roberto Luongo had 20 saves in the road win. Flight Plan: What Do We Do When We Fall Off The Horse…

The Philadelphia Flyers fired coach Peter Laviolette after a loss last Sunday to the Carolina Hurricanes. They promoted Craig Berube to head coach. Since then, they are 1-2-0, as they beat the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, but lost to the Phoenix Coyotes and the Detroit Red Wings, and have scored just five goals in that span. Berube wants to institute a more defensively conscious system, with emphasis on positional play, puck support, all while playing an uptempo, skating heavy game. Detroit’s power play hurts Flyers, Philly loses 5-2

The Philadelphia Flyers lost for the fifth time this season tonight in Detroit, as they lost to the Red Wings by the count of 5-2. Niklas Kronwall had a goal and two assists and Henrik Zetterberg had two goals and one assist, while Daniel Alfredsson had three helpers in the win for Detroit. Jimmy Howard stopped 32 shots for the win, while his team produced three goals on the power play.
