Flyers Struggle to Capitalize on Man Advantage, Fall to Florida 3-1

Missed powerplay opportunities and struggles with puck control were the Flyers’ downfall as they lost to the Florida Panthers on Monday night with a final score of 3-1. Sean Bergenheim had two goals for the Panthers, and Erik Gudbranson was responsible for the third. Wayne Simmonds scored the lone Flyers goal. Steve Mason recorded 28 of 31 shots, while Tim Thomas held the Flyers to only one goal on 38 shots. Claude Giroux’s power play goal early in the second period would prove to be the game winner, as the Flyers held on to beat the New York Islanders 5-2. Matt Read and Wayne Simmonds scored 59 seconds apart in the second period to give the Flyers an early 2-0 lead. Sean Couturier and Steve Downie assisted Read’s goal.
