Rinaldo sits for Ericsson hit

What do we do with you, Zac Rinaldo? The rookie center was “Shanabanned” earlier this evening, suspended for two games without pay on Monday by the National Hockey League. Rinaldo was slapped on the wrist because of that hard check which blew up Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson late in the first period of a 3-2 Detroit victory on Sunday night at Joe Louis Arena. He was given a minor for charging on the play and that realistically should have been all. “Ericsson is eligible to be hit in this situation, and Rinaldo is in position to deliver a legal, …

Wings Extend Streak To 20 At Home, Flyers Lose 4-3 In Detroit

Johan Franzen broke the tie early in the third period to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 lead over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers, which they held on to for their 20th straight home win. “The Mule” potted his league-leading 10th game-winning goal and 22nd goal of the season in the first minute of the third period, as Joey MacDonald earned his third straight win at home with a 26-save performance. The play that led to Franzen’s goal started with a slap-pass from Ian White at the point. White’s pass moved through the slot to Nicklas Lidstrom, who touched the puck back across the …

Talbot’s redirection gave the Flyers’ a 2-1 lead, while Giroux gave the Flyers’ a 3-2 lead during the later stages of the middle stanza. Tyler Bozak was the …

Atlantic Watch: 2/1-2/7

After a dominant victory on Thursday against one of the hotter teams in the league, the Flyers proceeded to drop their next handful of games to suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season. Poor starts and poor goaltending hurt the Flyers over the weekend, as the only other point they gained this week was from last night’s shootout loss. Hopefully for Philly, their play turns around, as they face three tough opponents over the next seven days. On Thursday, the Flyers handed the Nashville Predators a 4-1 loss in Philadelphia. Matt Read had the game-winner in the second …
