Schenn to miss 4-6 weeks with broken foot

The unquiet slumber of the early part of this 2011-12 season continued on Thursday, as Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed that Brayden Schenn suffered a broken foot and will miss 4-to-6 weeks. Schenn apparently suffered the injury when taking a shot off his left foot in Wednesday’s 5-1 loss in Montreal. Several sources reported that he was already in a walking boot by the time the club packed up to return to Philadelphia. It’s an unexpected setback for the 20-year-old, who, despite not recording a point in four games with the big club this season, showed signs of the faith …

Future Flyers Weekly Report

The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America. Forwards: Nick Cousins had another impressive performance. Cousins is currently sitting at 12 in scoring in the OHL and 2nd in team scoring for the Greyhounds. Marcel Noebels also …

Some unsolicited advice for Rinaldo

Keeping Zac Rinaldo on the roster should have been a matter of simple arithmetic. Relatively speaking, he earns a substantial amount less than Jody Shelley and can serve the same role. Sure, he’s not a heavyweight — most recently, he claimed to be 185lbs., or 40lbs. less than Shelley — but he’s not afraid to square off against bigger guys. He also did little to merit a demotion. According to Behind the Net, Rinaldo leads the team in penalties drawn per 60 minutes (11.3), a number greater than the penalties he’s taken (8.5). As long as he continues to keep …

But what does it mean?

N.B. I apologize in advance for this stream of consciousness post. I need some more time to organize my thoughts on the roster changes and will likely edit this post this afternoon. This morning, the Flyers announced that Brayden Schenn was recalled and Zac Rinaldo and Harry Zolnierczyk were loaned to the Phantoms. That leaves the Flyers with a glut of centers and some big questions about where everyone fits in the lineup. Through five games and a 4-0-1 record, the Flyers have been firing on all cylinders. They lead the league in goals per game (3.80) and have given up …

Flyers Fall to Kings in OT

The big storyline coming into what turned out to be a 3-2 overtime victory by the Los Angeles Kings over the Flyers, was the return of Mike Richards, and I think he ended up being the storyline at the end of the game as well. He took a penalty that led to the Flyers tying the game late in the third period, and then set up the winning shot in OT, like we had seen him do for the Orange and Black so many times before. This Saturday night special started off with a bang… literally. Zac Rinaldo levelled training-camp …
